RO rental service in Delhi NCR: how it works, and how to pick one

Renting an RO in Delhi NCR is a crowded market and a lightly regulated one. The machines are broadly similar, the monthly rates cluster within a hundred rupees of each other, and almost every listing says "free installation" and "free service". The differences that actually matter to you only show up in month four, when something fails. This guide is about finding those differences before you sign rather than after.

We rent purifiers, so read this with that in mind. We have tried to write the version we would want a relative to read, including the parts that are not flattering to us, and the section at the end names the case where you should not rent at all.

How an RO rental service actually works

The model is simple and it is worth understanding, because it explains which promises a company can afford to keep. You pay a monthly rent and a refundable security deposit. The company keeps ownership of the machine. Because it still owns the asset and wants it running for years across multiple customers, it has a direct financial interest in servicing it properly, which is the opposite of the incentive a per-visit repair shop has.

The two steps most companies are vague about are the last two. Scheduled servicing that you have to chase is not scheduled servicing, and a collection that costs you money is a deposit deduction by another name.

What the rent should cover, and what it usually hides

This is the single most useful list in this article. Every item below is a thing we have been asked to fix on a machine somebody else rented them, after they discovered it was not included.

• The machine itself, for the whole tenure, with no separate rental of "premium" cartridges.
• Installation: mounting, inlet tee, drain line, electrical point. Not "free installation, plumbing extra".
• Scheduled servicing every three months, initiated by the company rather than requested by you.
• Sediment, carbon and post-carbon filters. These are the cheap ones and are nearly always included.
• The RO membrane. This is the expensive one at ₹1,500-₹2,500 and is where exclusions hide.
• The booster pump and solenoid valve. Common failures around year three. Frequently excluded.
• Breakdown visits, unlimited, with no per-visit charge.
• Collection at the end, free, and the deposit refunded in full rather than net of "wear".

Five things to check before you sign

1. Who owns the machine, and who employs the technician?

A large share of rental listings in Delhi NCR are aggregators. They take your booking and pass it to whichever local vendor is free, and the vendor owns the machine. This is not automatically bad, but it means nobody in the chain can guarantee a response time, and when a part is disputed you are arguing with two companies at once. Ask directly whether the company owns its stock and employs its own technicians. We do both, out of a workshop in Jaitpur, which is the only reason we are willing to put 24 hours in writing.

2. What is the minimum period, and what happens after it?

Three months is the normal minimum on a domestic RO in Delhi NCR, and after that it should be month to month on about a week's notice. Be careful with anything that quotes an attractive monthly rate against a twelve-month commitment, particularly if you are in rented accommodation, because the exit penalty is where that discount comes back. Our minimum is three months, then month to month on seven days' notice.

3. Is the deposit refundable, or an advance?

A security deposit and an advance against rent are different things and are sometimes described in the same sentence deliberately. A deposit comes back in full when the machine does. An advance is rent you have already paid. Ours is ₹1000, it is a deposit, it is refunded in full on collection, and it is not netted against the last month.

4. What is the breakdown response time, and is it contractual?

Water is not an appliance you can be without for four days. Ask for the response time, then ask what happens if it is missed. A company carrying common failure parts on its vehicles — membrane, pre-filters, solenoid valve, float valve, booster pump, adaptor — can usually finish on the first visit. One that orders parts after diagnosing cannot, and a two-visit repair means two days without water.

5. Did they test your water before recommending a plan?

This is the one that tells you the most. Delhi NCR water is not one thing: treated DJB supply often runs 200-400 TDS, while borewell colonies across the outer west, north west and trans-Yamuna belt routinely test above 1200. A company that recommends a plan before measuring is selling from a price list. A free TDS test at your tap costs them twenty minutes and it is the difference between the right machine and an expensive one. "Kent on rent", "Aquaguard on rent": what you are actually getting

These are among the highest-volume RO searches in India and they deserve a straight answer. Kent, Aquaguard, Livpure and Pureit sell machines; with rare exceptions they do not rent them to households in Delhi NCR. So when a listing offers "Kent RO on rent", one of three things is true: it is a used branded unit, it is a generic assembled machine being described with a brand name for search traffic, or it is an aggregator listing that will be fulfilled with whatever the local vendor stocks.

None of those is necessarily a bad machine. An assembled unit with a good membrane, a decent pump and a technician who services it properly will outlast a branded machine nobody maintains. But you should know which one you are getting, so ask what is physically in the cabinet: membrane make, pump, number of stages, and whether there is a TDS controller. We rent our own assembled units and we say so rather than borrowing a brand name. Domestic rates cluster tightly across the market, which is why the inclusions matter more than the rate. These are ours, and they are the same in every city we cover.

Our workshop and stock sit in Jaitpur in South East Delhi, so the Okhla, Badarpur, Sarita Vihar, Jasola and Kalindi Kunj belt is where we install fastest, usually same day. If you are searching "RO on rent near me", the thing worth checking is not whether a company lists your area but whether it holds stock anywhere near it. An installation promised from thirty kilometres away in Delhi traffic is a promise about a map, not about your afternoon.

When you should not rent, from us or anyone

If you own the home you live in, expect to stay in it for the next eight to ten years, and can get a reliable annual maintenance contract at a sensible price, buying a purifier outright is cheaper over that horizon. That is a real scenario and it describes a meaningful minority of the households we visit.
